It was difficult for my heart to accept this truth at first.  Why would God pursue me!?

Is it true that when God thinks about me, He is delighted and filled with love for me… a love not based on anything I have done or not done, but on who He created me to be?  Yes!  and this truth changes everything!

TO RECAPTURE YOUR HEART – GOD PURSUES YOU!

(From John Eldridge – Restoration Year)

The Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. – Isaiah 30:18

God’s pursuit of humanity is a long story. Satan wanted center stage, and his plan now is to ruin your relationship with God by telling you that you are the point. You can see how humanity goes along with this. Cain murders Abel; Lamech threatens to murder everyone else. Humanity grows worse and worse until God says in pain, “I’m sorry I ever made them.” But he doesn’t give up. First with Noah, then Abraham, then Israel, we see God pursuing a people whose hearts will be for him, with whom he can share the joy of the Larger Story. But their faithfulness lasts about as long as the morning dew.

What is God’s heart experiencing through all of this? His heart is broken, but he keeps pursuing you. To bring his children back, the king clothes himself as a beggar and renounces his throne in order to win your hand. The incarnation, the life and the death of Jesus, answers once and for all the question, “What is God’s heart toward me?” This is why Paul says in Romans 5, “Look here, at the cross. Here is the demonstration of God’s heart.” You don’t have to wait for the incarnation to see God as a character in the story and learn something of his motives. But after the incarnation there can be no doubt.

Let your heart simply answer this question without the pressure to say the right thing:

What do you believe God’s heart toward you is really like?

Do your actions support this?
